ABSTRACT

A simple preparative strategy was proposed for the preparation of water-soluble, bright blue-emitting carbon nanoparticles ( CNPs ) at different temperatures by hydrothermal treatment using bean curd residue as carbon source for the first time. When the temperature reaches 240 ℃, quantum yield ( QY) can be up to 15. 24%. Most importantly, such fluorescent CNPs can be served as an effective sensing platform for label-free sensitive and selective detection of Fe3+ions with a detection of limit as low as 50 nmol/L, which is nearly 2 orders of magnitude lower than the maximum level of Fe3+ions in the drinking water permitted by the European Community. These outstanding properties give promising potential for reliable detection of Fe3+ in intracellular fluid and water samples, even bioimaging and optical imaging without being hazard in the future.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) C and D in gastric cancer and its relationship with tumor angiogenesis and lymph node metastasis.@*METHODS@#Immunohistochemistry(SABC) and real-time PCR were used to detect the expression of VEGF-C, VEGF-D protein and mRNA in 32 gastric cancer tissues and 32 normal gastric tissues.@*RESULTS@#The positive expression rate of VEGF-C and VEGF-D in gastric cancer tissue was significantly higher than that of normal gastric tissues (P0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#The non-intake high expression of VEGF-C and VEGF-D in gastric cancer cells is closely related to lymph node metastasis. They serve as the important reference indicator to assess the prognosis in gastric cancer patients.

ABSTRACT

Purpose To investigate the diagnostic value of gray-scale ultrasound on ovarian cystic teratoma.Materials and Methods 83 patients with primary diagnosis of ovarian cystic teratoma underwent gray-scale ultrasonography. The ultrasonic images were compared with postoperative pathologic results. Results 91 cases of 83 lesions were detected. The ultrasonic features were categorized into 6 types: cystoid, solid-like, intracystic dough sign, intracystic hair-ball, intracytic fat-fluid level, and intracytic cluttering sign. The diagnose accordance rate for each sign was 81.0%, 77.8%, 96.2%, 100% and 70.0% respectively. The diagnose accordance rate of ultrasonic diagnosis compared with pathologic results was 89.0% (81/91), and misdiagnosed rate and rate of missing diagnosis was 11.0% (10/91). Conclusion The ultrasonic features of ovarian cystic mature terotoma were of importance diagnostic value, whereas differentiation with ovarian chocolate cysts and ovarian mucus-cystic adenoma should be made cautiously.

ABSTRACT

Objective To determine the effect of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) on triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) in the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced macrophages and its signal transduction pathway. Methods The levels of TREM-1 mRNA in the macrophages were observed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and flow cytometry was performed to detect TREM-1 protein expression levels in the macrophages. Results CGRP had no regulating effect on the expression of TREM-1 in the macrophages; LPS could up-regulate macrophages to express TREM-1; CGRP increased TREM-1 mRNA expression in LPS-induced macrophages in dose and time-dependent manner; CGRP increased TREM-1 protein expression in LPS-induced macrophages, which could be partially reversed by H-7 or H-89 (P<0.05). Conclusion CGRP can regulate the LPS-induced macrophages synthesis and secretion of TREM-1, and the intracellular signal transduction pathway is related to PKA and PKC.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore histopathological features of the atypical hyperplastie thyroid epithelial cells (TEC) in Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), and to investigate its association with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Methods Thirty cases of HT with atypical hyperplastie TEC and 50 cases of PTC were selected from archives, the comparatively normal follicles around thyroid adenoma and in HT served as eontroi group. The morphological changes in HT were observed and the expressions of CK19. PCNA, Bcl-2 were detected by Max-Vision immunohistochemistry techniques. The results were analyzed by Chi-square test. Results The atypical hyperplastic TEC in HT showed some PTC-like features such as crowded cells, nucleus enlargement and ground glass appearance in the nucleus. As compared to the control, CKI9, PCNA and Bcl-2 were positively expressed in both atypical hyperplastic TEC in HT and PTC cells (P<0.05). Conclusion The atypical hyperplastic TEC in HT showed some morphological and immunological features of PTC, with the PTC specific marker CK19 expression, suggesting that the atypical hyperplastic TEC in HT may link HT with PTC, leading to malignant transformation, which should be closely watched.
